Infection Prevention
San Mateo County
Madelaine is passionate about making a positive impact in Infection Prevention (IP), particularly bridging the gap between acute care and Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF) practices. She began her career in the United States in 2014 as an ICU nurse at Regional Medical Center and joined Kaiser Permanente in 2016. She became an integral part of several committees, including the healthcare-associated infection committee. Her expertise in infection prevention was evident early on when she was named the Clostridioides difficile champion.
In the summer of 2020, amid the COVID-19 pandemic, Madelaine’s career in IP began to take shape. Initially hired as an extra help nurse to conduct IP audits, she quickly proved herself. By September, she became a full-time IP and a per diem ICU nurse. By July 2021, she earned her certification as an IP, solidifying her commitment to the field.
Madelaine’s IP foundation was solidified at O’Connor Hospital, where she took the initiative to create a daily workflow task for IPs, helping guide their daily operations. She also played a key role in updating and improving policies and procedures, conducting environmental rounds, and collaborating with various leadership departments to enhance infection prevention efforts.
When she transferred to Santa Clara Valley Medical Center, she made significant contributions by initiating the Hand Hygiene Committee, leading the Clostridioides difficile committee, and managing the NHSN data.
In 2023, she took on a new challenge as one of the IPs for the San Mateo County Local Health Department, supporting SNFs and Hemodialysis Facilities where she saw the tremendous opportunity to enhance IP in these communities.
In early 2024, left bedside and accepted a PRN position with the Kaiser Regional Program.
Madelaine believes that a strong IP not only saves and protects the patient, but also their families and the healthcare workers caring for them.
