Molly M. Scanlon, PhD, FAIA, FACHA is an Environmental Health Scientist, as well as a licensed and certified healthcare architect conducting research at the University of Arizona, Zuckerman College of Public Health. She has 30+ years of experience in healthcare settings to create environments benefiting the health, safety, and welfare of patients, clinicians, and staff. Dr. Scanlon’s research involves examining the built environment’s impact on human health. Her water related research focuses on reducing risk from waterborne pathogens from building water systems. She developed content for the Center for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC)’s Preventing Legionnaires’ Disease training program. Dr. Scanlon’s has created novel tools for infection control risk assessment to address water quality and safety regulations for construction and commissioning potable building water systems. She was named Citizen Architect by the American Institute of Architects for her Alternative Care Sites Task Force service during the COVID-19 pandemic response.
