GERARD MARSHALL BS, AS, RRT, CIC, has had a fulfilling career in healthcare and is currently Infection Prevention Manager at Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center in Las Vegas NV.
• Early Career: Gerard began his healthcare journey in 1979 as a Board-Certified Respiratory Therapist.
• Leadership Roles: After moving from California to Nevada, he served as President of the Nevada Society for Respiratory Care (NSRC) for two terms and was instrumental in initiating Nevada State Respiratory Therapy Licensure. He was a NSRC board member for 15 years.
• Education and Mentorship: Gerard has been actively involved in student education, serving as a field coordinator for Physical Therapy (PT), Occupational Therapy (OT), Respiratory Therapy (RT), and Public Health students for over 25 years.
• Antimicrobial Stewardship: He co-chaired the Nevada Antimicrobial Stewardship Program from 2019 to 2024 and has been a board member of the Nevada Antimicrobial Stewardship Program (NVASP) since 2010. From 2015 to 2018, the ASP team's efforts led to a 50% improvement in antimicrobial effectiveness, as verified by Nevada state antibiograms.
• Current Positions: Gerard is the President-elect of the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology (APIC) Southern Nevada Chapter (SONV35) since January 2025. Manager of IP at Sunrise Hospital & MC
• Publications and Presentations:
• December 2023: Published in the American Journal of Infection Control (AJIC) on the association between ventilator-associated events and the implementation of an acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) ventilator weaning protocol.
• April 2023: Presented a poster at the Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America (SHEA) on the effect of dry hydrogen peroxide on Candida auris environmental contamination.
