Megan Dizon, MAS-HI, BSN, RN, CIC, Infection Prevention Centralized Surveillance Director, Banner Health
Megan began working with Banner Health in 2006, where her nursing career launched in the operating room of one of the largest acute care facilities in Arizona. In 2013, she went on to obtain her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Grand Canyon University and in her pursuit of continued learning, Megan obtained APIC membership after becoming interested in shared leadership and infection prevention. In 2015, she joined the infection prevention team to pilot the ambulatory infection prevention specialization, before transitioning into an acute care facility-based role. The foundation of a centralized surveillance team was laid in 2017, and as part of a two-person team Megan validated procedure denominators for 29 acute care facilities while achieving her certification in infection prevention. Megan was promoted as the centralized surveillance director in 2022, heading the implementation of a complete centralized surveillance team of six, subsequently obtaining her Master in Advanced Study of Health Informatics from Arizona State University in 2023. Megan asserts that accurate data capture is the driving force behind the improvement and transformation of patient safety, allowing facility-based infection preventionists to implement evidence and devote prevention efforts at the point of care.
