System Director Infection Prevention

Sarah Burgos, RN, MSN, CIC, is the System Director of Infection Prevention at PIH Health Hospital, where she has served since 2003, overseeing a team across three campuses in the Los Angeles area for the past 3 years. She began her nursing career in 1998 as an LVN and became a Registered Nurse in 2009. Prior to transitioning into Infection Prevention in 2015, she spent 13 years as a nurse in the medical neuro department, gaining extensive experience in patient care and complex neurological conditions. That same year, she completed her Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) with an emphasis in epidemiology and joined the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology (APIC). She later earned her Certification in Infection Control (CIC) in 2021. Dedicated to advancing infection prevention practices, Sarah has served as the Secretary of the APIC Coastline Chapter and current chapter President, contributing to the education and development of fellow professionals. With a passion for patient safety and quality care, she continues to lead strategic initiatives that enhance infection prevention across healthcare settings.
