Angela is a nationally recognized expert in Infection Prevention and Epidemiology. She has held many roles - from her early days as an Epidemiologist at the Houston Health Dept to many years of working in Infection Prevention programs in TX, DC and CA hospitals. In 2017, she was hand-picked to lead the first Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS) Infection Prevention project for ambulatory surgery centers. During COVID, she helped lead the global response for BuzzFeed and Netflix with her company's team of experts (www.angievassallo.com). Post-COVID, hers was the first Infection Prevention-owned company awarded a government contract funded by the CDC to provide technical expertise to nursing homes. Angela enjoys mentoring future Infection Prevention leaders and received the APIC Hero award along with her esteemed colleagues in 2023 for their work on APIC's COVID-19 Task Force. She has been a member of the national APIC board, Chair of the APIC Communications Committee, President of the Los Angeles APIC chapter and the California APIC Coordinating Council. She was nominated Healthcare Manager of the Year by the Los Angeles Business Journal in 2014 and was inducted as a Fellow into the New York Academy of Medicine in 2024.
