Interim Director of Infection Prevention
Parkland Health
Plano, Texas
Laura Buford, MSN, RN, CIC began her infection prevention career in the late 1990’s after working as an RN in both adult and pediatric Emergency Departments and PACUs. Ms. Buford has worked as a general IP and in leadership roles in varied facilities ranging from small suburban hospitals to large urban academic facilities. She worked as an interim director of Infection Prevention from 2016-2020 and enjoyed the challenges associated with the quick pace of the role. In 2017, Ms. Buford began graduate school and in 2019, earned her Master’s Degree in Nursing with an Infection Prevention Specialization. APIC has been a strong force in Ms. Buford’s career working both at the chapter and national level. She was elected to APIC’s Nominating and Awards Committee for 2023-2025 and served as co-chair in 2024. She has been Certified in Infection Control since 2003.
