R. Justin May is an experienced Infection Preventionist with a background in clinical microbiology and a specialty in mycobacteriology. He began his infection prevention career in 2019 at the University of Florida and currently serves at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist, where he works to enhance patient safety through innovative infection control strategies.
Before transitioning to infection prevention, Justin worked extensively as a clinical microbiologist, bringing a deep understanding of laboratory sciences to his current role. His expertise bridges microbiology and infection prevention, allowing him to develop data-driven approaches to healthcare-associated infection reduction.
Outside of work, Justin enjoys cooking, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, spending time with his kids, and lifting heavy things—both in the gym and beyond. Notably, he became the 323rd person to lift the legendary Dinnie Stones in Scotland, a historic feat of strength.
