INFECTION CONTROL NURSE
THE QUEEN ELIZABETH HOSPITAL, Barbados
I am Ms. Marsha Burton, a Registered Nurse for the past fifteeen years at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) in Barbados, ten of these years have been spent in the Infection Prevention and Control Department. I hold a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from The Barbados Community College (2020) and a Post Graduate Diploma in Infection Prevention and Control from the University of the West Indies Mona Campus in Jamaica (2021). Over the years I completed training with Pan American Health Organization/ World Health Organization (PAHO / WHO) and The Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America (SHEA) and am also a Qualitative Face Mask Fit Tester. My scientific poster on Isolation challenges in a resource constraint setting at the QEH was accepted at the International Conference on Prevention and Infection Control (ICPIC) 2023. I have a passion for helping people by sharing my knowledge and experience with others under my perceptership, and along with the team, share responsibilities for surveillance, training, auditing, isolation and outbreak investigations. In my free time I love to paint, crochet and work in the garden, these activities help to bring peace and balance to my life.
