Infection Preventionist

Anne Mattern, BSN, RN, CNORE, CIC, is an Infection Preventionist at UT Southwestern Medical Center Dallas. She has been a Registered Nurse with over 30 years of experience specializing in infection prevention, perioperative, high-level disinfection, sterile processing, and interprofessional education. Her experience includes over 14 years in infection prevention leadership and 18 years as a perioperative RN and clinical nurse educator. She works as an Infection Preventionist at UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, TX, and is attending graduate school for her Master of Science in Nursing and Education Specialty.
While at Cook Children’s Medical Center, Fort Worth, TX, Anne was certified as a Perioperative 101 Nurse Residency educator and managed the Periop 101 nurse residency program from 2009 to 2011. She then worked as a Perioperative Nurse Clinical Nurse Educator at Texas Health Resources, Harris Hospital, Fort Worth, TX. She expanded their Periop 101 nurse residency program, collaborating with system-wide perioperative nursing education from 2011- 2013.
Anne has provided ongoing professional development as a speaker, engaging with professional nursing organizations and conferences. She has also provided nursing and interprofessional development education in acute care settings for sedation, perioperative, endoscopy, sterile processing, and infection prevention and control practices. She has volunteered as an independent infection preventionist with the AAMI workgroups WG40 Steam Sterilization Hospital Practices and ST-WG84 Endoscopes Reprocessing since 2021 and is a voting member.
Anne is an active member of the Association of Prevention Infection and Control (APIC DFW) and a lifelong member of the Association of periOperative Registered Nurses (AORN). Anne has served as the APIC DFW education committee chair and moderator since 2015. She has a lifelong passion for safe patient care with quality outcomes and as a clinical peer mentor of new nurses.
