INFECTION PREVENTION AND CONTROL OFFICER

Keisha Gustave PhD, MPH, BScN, RN is an accomplished Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) Officer at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Barbados, where she brings over 22 years of experience in nursing and more than a decade of expertise in infection control and epidemiology. As the IPC Officer at the island’s only governmental acute care hospital, Keisha has been a key driver of the hospital’s IPC program, making significant contributions both locally and regionally.
In her role, Keisha focuses on strengthening surveillance programs and mentoring emerging IPC professionals. She is recognized for her dedication to training novice infection preventionists and for her active participation in numerous hospital workgroups aimed at enhancing quality of care and patient safety.
Keisha is a strong advocate for the integration of infection preventionists into process improvement strategies, emphasizing that this collaborative approach is essential to reducing hospital-acquired infections and improving patient outcomes.
Her commitment to advancing the field of infection prevention is reflected in her research contributions, which include publications in respected journals such as Infection Control & Hospital Epidemiology (Cambridge Journal) and BioMed Central (BMC), along with several poster presentations highlighting efforts to reduce hospital-acquired infections and improve patient safety.
Keisha is an engaged member of several professional organizations, including the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology (APIC), the Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America (SHEA), and the Infection Prevention Society (IPS).
