Learning Objectives:

  • Upon completion, participants will be able to describe the impact of the modified blood culture collection protocol on contamination rates in a high-acuity hospital setting.
  • Upon completion, participants will be able to list the key components of the new blood culture collection protocol, including the use of sterile gloves, disposable tourniquets, and chlorhexidine alcohol.
  • Upon completion, participants will be able to demonstrate the statistical significance of the reduction in blood culture contamination rates following the implementation of the new protocol.
