Pre-Con #1: A Focus on Water and Air: Design, Construction and Operation of Healthcare Infrastructure
In-person | Sunday, June 15, 2025 | 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM
APIC MEMBER: $405 | NON-MEMBER: $505 | STANDALONE: $505This workshop will provide an overview of the design, construction, operation, and unique infection prevention considerations for plumbing and HVAC systems in healthcare facilities. Attendees will also learn about technologies and strategies that may be considered for sustainability, including potential benefits and possible infection-related risks.
Objectives | At the end of this session the learner will be able to:
- Identify plumbing and HVAC design elements of interest to the infection preventionist
- Integrate an understanding of basic plumbing and HVAC design and function to the daily operations and maintenance of a healthcare facility
- Advocate for best practices and be aware of potential areas of concern involving the plumbing and HVAC systems during design, construction, and operation

Pre-Con #2: Disinfection, Sterilization and Antisepsis: Principles, Practices, Current Issues, New Research and New Technologies
In-person | Sunday, June 15, 2025 | 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM
APIC MEMBER: $405 | NON-MEMBER: $505 | STANDALONE: $505This program will present scientific and practical information related to the use of sterilization technologies, disinfectants, and antiseptics in healthcare settings. This international symposium will include lectures and panel discussions on the latest breakthroughs regarding cleaning/disinfecting of non-critical environmental surfaces as well as reprocessing semi-critical and critical medical devices. The presentations will discuss current issues associated with hand hygiene, disinfection, and sterilization in healthcare; special issues and solutions associated with reprocessing endoscopes and other medical devices; new technologies and products for disinfection, sterilization, and antisepsis; and the products to use to inactivate emerging pathogens (e.g.,
Candida auris, mpox,
C. difficile, SARS-CoV-2, human papilloma virus). In addition to the lectures invited, panel discussions will be offered.
Objectives | At the end of this session the learner will be able to:
- Discuss current issues associated with hand hygiene
- Describe new technologies, issues, and standards (e.g., AAMI) for disinfection, sterilization, and antisepsis/hand hygiene
- Examine the special issues for reprocessing semi-critical (e.g., endoscopes, examining internal channels) and critical (e.g., medical and surgical instruments) items.
- Evaluate the role of surfaces (including floors, sinks, and portable equipment) in the transmission of viruses and epidemiologically important pathogens and the latest technologies in cleaning/disinfection/”no touch” room decontamination/continuous room decontamination to reduce the risk of healthcare-associated infections
- Discuss new challenges in surface disinfection and instrument reprocessing (e.g., biofilms, surface irregularities, instrument staining, MIFU)
- Discuss the shift from high-level disinfection to sterilization for endoscopes
- Discuss issues and special problems associated with reprocessing medical and surgical instruments
- Discuss special issues: HVAC infection control issues; interventions to reduce the risk of transmission of infections from sinks and other wastewater drainage sites; and environmental sampling
- Discuss germicides to inactivate emerging pathogens (e.g., Candida auris, carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae, C. difficile, mpox, SARS-CoV-2, human papilloma virus) and contaminated germicides

Pre-Con #3: Infection Prevention Regulatory Readiness
In-person | Sunday, June 15, 2025 | 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM
APIC MEMBER: $405 | NON-MEMBER: $505 | STANDALONE: $505Few things cause more stress for an Infection Prevention & Control (IPC) leader than preparing for planned and/or unplanned regulatory survey events. Attendees can share their areas of concern in a collegial environment and reflect on effective strategies. This program will be of interest to Infection Preventionists from across the continuum of care, including acute care, long-term care, and ambulatory settings, a growing area of vulnerability for many organizations. This workshop will also benefit surveyors who want to deepen their understanding of contemporary infection prevention challenges.
Objectives | At the end of this workshop, the participant will be able to:
- Describe current and emerging regulatory trends related to Infection Prevention & Control.
- Identify common gaps a surveyor may find in the environment of care.
- Learn communication strategies to use with surveyors during and after a visit.
This interactive workshop will shed light on the continuous regulatory readiness process, including:
- Presentations by regulatory experts and surveyors from various organizations.
- Interactive discussion and skill-building opportunities for participants to enhance survey readiness to lead their facility through regulatory events confidently.
